Sometimes you need to reset an Orbi and the app just isn't cooperating — maybe it won't connect, maybe you don't have it installed on the device you're holding. The good news is every Orbi router and satellite has a physical reset option that doesn't need the app at all.

The physical reset button method

  1. Locate the small recessed reset button on the unit (check the back or bottom — it's usually labeled and requires a pin or paperclip to press).
  2. With the unit powered on, press and hold the button for about 10 seconds.
  3. Release once the light starts cycling or flashing — this confirms the reset has started.
  4. Wait for the unit to fully reboot, which can take a few minutes.

What gets wiped vs preserved

A factory reset erases your wifi name, password, any custom settings (like port forwarding rules or parental control schedules), and pairing information. It returns the unit to its out-of-box state. It does not affect your internet connection itself, your modem, or your ISP account — you'll simply need to run through setup again afterward.

Resetting the router only vs the whole system

If you reset just the main router, your satellites will lose their pairing and need to be re-synced afterward, since the network they were paired to no longer exists in the same form. If your goal is to fix one misbehaving satellite, reset that satellite specifically rather than the whole system.

After the reset: what to do next

Once the unit finishes rebooting, connect to its default wifi network (printed on the label) using a phone or laptop, and go through setup either via a browser at the default login address or through the Orbi app if you have access to it on another device.
